How it all began.
That evening, representatives from Belgium, Switzerland and England were approached in the bar, and it was agreed to hold a meeting the following evening in the hotel lobby. During that first meeting the subject was discussed at great length and the basic rules of the competition were drafted. It was agreed to forward the proposals to the national associations for their approval. The five national associations gave the green light, and the first competition was held in Momberg, Germany in 1998. GENSB was born!
The representatives that attended the first meeting in Jersey (the “founding members” of GENSB) were Albert Treiber (Germany), Anja Poorterman, Georg Nieuwendijk (Netherlands), Markus Sax (Switzerland), Dirk Dieleman (Belgium) and Jim Knight (England). Since the start of GENSB many people have worked hard to ensure the continued success of the tournament, these include the founding members plus Rainer Schalck, Günter Weiss (Germany), Rahnie Smith, Peter Tuckwell, Vic Ludkin, Alec Masson (England), Arjan Slotboom, Jeanet Brinks, Tiny Langeveld, Ivy Pot, Jeroen Brummelman (Netherlands), Walter Schacher, Rolf Glauser, Cornel Studerus (Switzerland), Johan v.d. The five GENSB countries take it in turn to host the tournament, which has developed into the most successful youth Tug of War competition in the world. Seventeen teams competed in the first GENSB tournament in 1998, but that number has steadily increased with 54 teams competing in 2011. GENSB involves both boys and girls, the costs for competitors are kept to a minimum, and EVERY participant goes home with a medal; these essential elements of GENSB have never changed. The tournament always starts with an opening ceremony where all the teams and officials parade in the arena and the GENSB flag is raised. The tournament closes with the presentation of trophies followed by the GENSB flag being lowered and presented to the national representative of the next year’s host country. The Saturday evening disco, held after the competition, is now a permanent and popular feature of the GENSB weekend. The governance of GENSB is kept within the GENSB countries, but teams from other countries are always welcome. Teams from Sweden, Ireland, Latvia and Lithuania are regular entrants, and teams from Italy and the Republic of South Africa have also taken part.
Het GENSB toernooi is in 1998 in het leven geroepen door de touwtrekorganisaties van resp. Duitsland, Engeland, Nederland, Zwitserland en België. Doel van het toernooi was en is touwtrekkers tussen de 12 en 18 jaar uit verschillende landen met elkaar te laten concurreren op internationaal niveau en hen daarmee internationale wedstrijdervaring te laten opdoen.Tegelijkertijd is het doel vriendschappen te laten ontstaan en het touwtrekken bij de jeugd in de schijnwerpers te zetten.
Elk jaar wordt het toernooi georganiseerd door en gehouden in één van de vijf GENSB-landen. Behalve deze landen, zijn er ook gast-deelnemers uit onder meer Noord-Ierland, Zweden, Zuid-Afrika, Italië, Schotland en Baskenland.
De opzet van het GENSB-toernooi is mede een enorm succes, omdat elke deelnemende jeugdspeler aan het touw zal staan én er doelbewust voor is gekozen het als een low budget-evenement te organiseren. Waardoor een financiële drempel zoveel mogelijk wordt voorkomen.
Het internationale touwtrekevenement begint op vrijdagmiddag als de sporters bij de overnachtingslocatie in Oostmalle arriveren. Op de zaterdagmorgen vindt bij de overnachtingslocatie het wegen plaats, waarna de sporters met pendelbussen naar het touwtrekterrein in Overbroek (Brecht) worden vervoerd. Na de officiële opening beginnen om plm. 12.00 uur de wedstrijden. De finale staat gepland om ongeveer 16.00 uur.

Das Ziel des Turniers war und ist dass Tauzieher zwischen 12und 18 Jahren miteinander auf internationalem Niveau kämpfen, damit sie internationale Wettkampferfahrungen sammeln können.
Zugleicherzeit ist das Ziel das Enstehen von Freundschaften und das Tauziehen bei der Jugend in die öffentlichkeit zu bringen.
Jedes Jahr wird das Turnier organisiert von einem der fünf GENSB- Länder und das Turnier findet dann hier auch statt.
Außer diesen Ländern, gibt es auch Gastteilnehmer ausu.a.Nordirland, Schweden, Südafrika, Italien, Schottland und Baskenland.
Das Ziel des GENSB-Turniers ist darum ein großer Erfolg, weil jeder der teilnehmenden Jugendspieler das Tauziehen wird. Und zielbewusst wurde dafür gewählt eine LowBudget- Veranstaltung zu organisieren.
Dadurch wird die finanzielle Schwelle niedrig gehalten
Die internationale Tauziehveranstaltung beginnt am Freitagnachmittag wenn die Spieler bei dem Übernachtungsort in Oostmalle ankommen. Am Samstagmorgen wird bei dem Übernachtungsort gewogen und danach werden die Spieler mit Pendelbussen zum Tauziehgelände in Overbroek (Brecht) gebracht.
Nach der offiziellen Eröffnung fangen um etwa 12.00 Uhr die Wettkämpfe an.
Das Endspiel wird um etwa 16.00 Uhr stattfinden.
